ICPA Bangalore

ICPA Bangalore is striving hard to teach, train and create awareness in Indian Classical art forms. We  also teach the underprivilaged and the differently abled art lovers.

Our main aim is to teach art forms like Kathakali, Yakshagana, Koodiyattam, Mohiniyattam , chenda, maddalam, Kathakali Sangeetham along with other popular classical art forms.

ICPA Bangalore would like to give equal importance to Kathakali Sangeetham as there is a lot of history attached to it and it was very popular in all parts of Kerala before the kings started patronising Carnatic Music.
We would like to revive it and start teaching it to the younger generation along with Carnatic music.

Kathakali Sangeetham

Kathakali Sangetham is also Bhava Sangeetham. We give immence weightage to Bhavas or expression in Kathakali. The music supports the expressions of the character and resonates the mood of the character.
Carnatic sangeetham also has Bhava , mainly Bhakti ( devotion) and Srungara (love).
Different aspects of Kerala Sangeetham, Sopana Sangeetham and Carnatic Sangeetham has been adopted to Kathakali Sangeetham to enhance the different Bhavas of the characters. The talas and ragas are also chosen to suit the bhavas.
Thalams like Chemba and adantha are adopted from Kerala Sangeetham and Pani, Kurinji and Gandaran are the ragas from Kerala Sangeetham. Todi, Kamboji and Kalyani from Carnatic style is also adapted here.
The speciality of Kathakali Sangeetham is that one raga can be sung in different Bhavas and this is mainly used in stories like Nala Chartitha.
The use of Ga Ma Ga s are also different in Kathakali Sangeetham.
The langugage in Kathakali Sangeetham  is called Manipravalam- a combination of Sanskrit and Malayalam
